My Approach
As a Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapist in private practice for more than 17 years, I have been privileged to witness how therapy can support positive changes in a person’s life.
I work collaboratively with each client in a way that is best suited to their individual needs: this might consist of short-term counselling in relation to a specific problem or situation, or longer-term psychotherapy for those wishing to deepen their understanding of themselves and their relationship with others.
Although my approach is based mainly on talk therapy I have a particular interest in working at an embodied and somatic level incorporating my various trainings in Somatic Experiencing®, Hakomi and Open Floor Movement Practice. This may be augmented with mindfulness or psycho-education, depending on the client’s needs and preferences.
Somatic Experiencing (SE)® is a body-oriented therapeutic model for healing trauma and other stress disorders. Developed by Dr. Peter Levine, it is based on the idea that traumatic experiences can lead to dysfunction in your nervous system, which can keep you from fully processing the experience. Unlike other forms of trauma therapy, the SE approach releases traumatic shock from the body gradually and indirectly without needing to talk about the details of the traumatic experience.
